OrcaSlicer v2.0.0 Beta

Just one month after the release of version 1.9.1, OrcaSlicer, the community-developed fork of Bambu Studio, received a new update and was bumped to version 2.0.0 Beta.

As the bump in the version suggests, this is a huge release, and we’ll try to highlight the main changes here:

  • Scarf joint seam: an innovative approach to hide seams for FDM printing
  • Small area flow compensation
  • OTA profile update support for all 3d printers
  • A new 3D navigator, marked as a Quality of Life (QoL) improvement
  • Improve gap-fill application strategy
  • Direct adaptive bed mesh support
  • Allow specifying print order within each layer
  • Revisited and improved “Ensure vertical thickness” strategy and UX
  • New handy model: Orca string hell
  • Check and warn users if print speed/acceleration/jerk are higher than the machine limits
  • Improve pressure equalizer to be less aggressive
  • Option to control the amount of internal bridging, fixing internal bridge missing for some sloped surfaces
  • Import of the EditGCodeDialog from PrusaSlicer
  • Import of “Counterbole hole bridging” feature from SuperSlicer (where it’s called “No Unsupported Perimeters”)
  • Fixed a bug that, in some edge cases, wrong top surfaces were detected
  • Corrected monotonic lines now respect user infill/wall overlap setting
  • Add configurable short wall/perimeter cleaning for Arachne
  • Fixed filament Load / Unload time was not used in time estimation
  • Add shell type to STEP importer to fix importing of some STEP files
  • Pressure equalizer documentation
  • Improve PA tower:
    1. Support large nozzles
    2. Remove jerk=1 settings
    3. Move settings changes to the object to avoid accidentally saving the profile
  • Support for Obico cloud integration
  • Allow to specify wall directions
  • Better Scrolling Over Multiline Fields
  • Improve ExtrusionLine::simplify, eliminating many very-short extrusion segments which led to blemishes in thin-wall models sliced with Arachne – Take 2
  • Decouple filament minimum print speed from overhang slowdown
  • Fix an issue that exporting filament profiles didn’t work for non-bbl printers
  • Lots of improvements in profile for various printers
  • Lots of small bug fixes

The complete changelog can be found on the GitHub release page along with nice illustrations for the main new features: https://github.com/SoftFever/OrcaSlicer/releases/tag/v2.0.0-beta

We believe that the most anticipated feature was the scarf joint seams, which is best understood with a picture (courtesy of OrcaSlicer’s release note):
